Topic:  Saxons

English:

This half term, we will be writing a chronological recount in the form of a Police report. We will be watching the animation Pigeon Impossible and children will learn the skills needed in order to give an accurate recount of the events, including: interview questions; using time adverbials to signal order; note-taking and keeping chronological sequence.

Following on from this, we will be reading Hermelin the Detective Mouse. Children will then plan and write a narrative  sequel based on events in the original. We will be focussing on: rich language; sentence openers; varying sentence length for effect and creating characters, settings and plot.

Maths: 

Decimals:

  • Read and write decimal equivalents of any number of tenths or hundredths
  • Dividing a one or two digit number by 10 or 100 (naming the tenths of hundredths)
  • Solve simple measure and money problems involving fractions and decimals to 2 places
  • Convert between different units of measure
  • Compare numbers with the same number of decimal places (up to 2dp)
  • Round decimals with 1dp to the nearest whole number
  • Recognise and write decimal equivalents

Measurement: Money and Time:

  • Estimate, compare and calculate different measures including money in £ and p
  • Solve simple measure and money problems involving fractions and decimals (2dp)
  • Convert between different units of measure
  • Read, write and convert between digital and analogue time

Science:

Electricity:

  • Identify common appliances that run on electricity
  • Construct a simple series electrical circuit, identifying and naming its basic parts, including cells, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzer
  • Identify whether or not a lamp will light in a simple series circuit, based on whether or not the lamp is part of a complete loop with a battery
  • Recognise that a switch opens and closes a circuit and associate this with whether or not a lamp lights in a simple series circuit
  • Recognise some common conductors and insulators

History: Saxons

  • To gain an overview of the significant people and events during the Anglo-Saxon period in Britain.
  • To contrast everyday life during the Anglo-Saxon period with modern British lifestyles.
  • To consider broader historical themes of invading and settling before a time when Britain was unified under a single monarch.
  • To become familiar with historical sources and accurate vocabulary relating to the Anglo-Saxon period.

Music:  

  • To identify and understand how rhythm patterns fit to a steady beat
  • To understand how tempo and dynamics are used for effect

Art:

In Art we will be looking at landscapes. We will be looking at the work of Barbara Rae and we will be using collage materials to create our own landscapes using  Perspectives. We will then design our own landscape scene and use clay to produce a tile which we will then paint.

PSHE: Sex and relationship education: Growing up and changing

Outdoor games/Indoor PE:

· Hockey and Indoor Athletics

RE:

· Jesus the law breaker: The importance of rules and laws and what life would be like without them.

 

Computing: We will be looking at different methods of communication including email. We will look at how to send emails safely including adding attachments.
