Topic 4: Ciao Bella!
For the second part of the Spring term, we’ll be learning about Italy. This will cover the following areas:
• Geography of Europe (Countries and capital cities)
• Focus on Italy
• Regions
• Mountains
• Rivers
English: We will be learning more about Italy and the children will then write their own city guides. This will then be followed by reading the Glassmaker’s Daughter and creating and performing play scripts of the tale
Maths: We will continue to work on our arithmetic of using all four number operations, learning how to use formal methods as well as more efficient, mental methods.
Fractions and Decimals - We will revise fractions from Year 3 and then move onto equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions and finding fractions of quantities. Children will also learn about tenths and hundredths and their decimal notation.
Remember, there is a Year 4 Times Tables Check after Easter. It is expected that all children will know their times tables up to and including 12x12 by the end of Year 4. Children will be given 25 questions and six seconds will be allowed for each question.
Geography: We will learn about the Physical geography of Europe, Italy and its regions.
IT: We will look at Digital literacy through writing emails and focus on control and programming through our use of Flowol.
Art: We will be inspired by the work of famous Italian artists.
DT: Cooking – making pizzas!
RE: We will be focusing on Hindu Rituals
Music: Recorder lessons
PE: Indoor PE will be Bokwa. Outdoor games will be Outdoor and Adventurous Games.
