Topic:   Rotten Romans

This half term, we’ll be learning about the Romans including the Roman army, Boudicca’s rebellion, Roman towns and their legacy.  We’ll also develop our historical skills by taking on the role of archaeologists.

Literacy:  Adventure stories – we will be writing our own adventure stories based on the story ‘Escape from Pomeii’.  Persuasive Radio Advert – we will be creating our own radio advertisements for Fishbourne Roman Palace.

Maths: Counting, reading, writing and ordering numbers to at least 9,999, counting forwards and backwards in steps of different sizes, rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000, multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. Tables facts - knowing all tables facts to 12 x 12 from memory and using these to work out division facts e.g. if 7x8=56, then 56÷8=7. Roman numerals – to read and write Roman numerals.  Measurement – to convert between units of measure (length, weight and volume) and to read and write times using 12 and 24 hour clock.  Position and direction – to use co-ordinates to describe positions and plot points to complete a polygon.  Word problems – revising written methods for all four number operations (+ - x ÷) and applying these to solve word problems, including the use of estimation and inverse operations. 

Computing:  We will be continuing to develop our use of Publisher.

RE:  This half term, we will be learning about Jesus as a law breaker.

DT:  We will be designing and making our own money holders.

Art:  We will be designing and making our own mosaics and Roman shields.

Music:  Composing jingles for our persuasive radio adverts.

PE:   Indoor PE will be on Monday afternoons. Outdoor PE will be on Tuesday afternoons.  We will be continuing the Golden Mile initiative so please make sure your child has their PE kit, including trainers, in school every day. At this time of year, children should also have tracksuit bottoms and a jumper. Long hair must be tied back and spare socks are helpful.
