Topic 3: Titanic - Unsinkable?
This half term, we’ll be learning about the Titanic, focusing on the events that led up to the disaster and different survivors accounts.
English: Titanic – we’ll be writing diary entries from the point of a survivor of the Titanic, as well as applying our learning from last half term to independently write a newspaper article about the disaster.
Maths:
Recalling and using multiplication and division facts up to 12 x 12
Children will also be taught to recognise and use factor pairs and commutativity in mental calculations.
Formal written method for multiplication - Children will be taught how to multiply two-digit and three-digit numbers by a one-digit number using formal written layout.
Formal written method for division - Children will be taught how to divide two-digit and three-digit numbers by a one-digit number using formal written layout (bus-stop method).
History: We will be learning about the key events which took place leading up to the disaster, with a focus on debating the reasons why it took place and understanding that there may be different interpretations of the same event.
IT: We will be developing our coding skills using Scratch. There will also be a unit of work on Internet safety.
RE: We will be learning about Hindu rituals.
Art: In Art we are contrasting the work of artists Hokusai and Alfred Wallis and creating printing blocks based on Hokusai's Great Wave.
