Y4 Autumn 2 2018
Topic 2: Titanic: Triumph or Tragedy?
This half term, we’ll be learning about the Titanic, focusing on the events that led up to the disaster, as well as the impact that it had on the city of Southampton.
English: Titanic – we’ll be writing diary entry from the point of a survivor of the Titanic, as well as applying our learning from last half term to independently write a newspaper article about the disaster.
The Y4 Spelling page on the website has our spelling lists for the term.
Maths: This term, we will start by learning about length and perimeter and then quickly move on to learning about multiplication and division. This will be supported by lots of work developing our mental maths skills, including recalling times tables and division facts.
'MyMaths' is used for some set homework tasks but also has many useful games for online home learning.
Computing: We'll be learning more about coding through Scratch.
RE: Our concept this half term is ‘Prophecy’ and we’ll teach this through the story of the Magi.
Art: In Art we will be exploring colour and tone by mixing and blending. We will be working towards producing a final Titanic piece using just one colour of acrylic paint.
PE: Indoor PE will be on Monday afternoons. Outdoor PE will be on Thursday afternoons. We will be continuing the Golden Mile initiative so please make sure your child has their PE kit, including trainers, in school every day. At this time of year, children should also have tracksuit bottoms and a jumper. Long hair must be tied back and spare socks are helpful.
