Topic – Nature Detectives
For the first half of the summer term, we will be learning about plants and what they need to grow.
We will be thinking and learning about:
We will be learning about the life of Florence Nightingale, as a significant individual who has contributed to national and international achievements and was active in our locality.
Literacy: We will be writing simple sentences and learning about what makes a good sentence, including adding capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We will also be adding adjectives and conjunctions into our sentences as well as similes. We will be discovering different genres of writing through the Percy the Park keeper stories.
Phonics: We will have daily phonics lessons and follow the letters and sounds programme. We will be securing phase 5 and focusing on applying the phonemes we know in our reading. In our phonics lessons, we will learn a sound, practise reading and writing it and then apply it by reading a sentence or set of words.
Number – Counting forwards and backwards in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Applying our addition and subtraction knowledge to word problems. Using and apply number bonds to 20.
Measure – Measuring how tall/short, heavy/ light and full/empty an object or container is using non-standard and standard units.
IT: We have IT in the IT suite on Tuesdays. We will be practising logging on to the computers, practising mouse control and learning to type. We will be using programmes such as 2Publish+ and Tux Typing. We will also be practising maths using different educational games.
PE: Indoors on Tuesday mornings. Outdoor PE on Wednesday afternoons - weather dependent!
