At Kings Worthy we want children to enjoy their learning; develop enquiring minds, develop the personal qualities they need to be good citizens of the world, and develop a sense of their own nationality and culture, at the same time developing a profound respect for the nationalities and cultures of others. Most of all, we want children to develop all the skills they will need in order to confidently face the world of tomorrow.  These qualities link with our 'BEST' behaviour values and are shown in our Learning Vision.

The curriculum is organised into individual subject areas, for example, maths, history and art, each area with its own subject leader. Some lessons are taught discretely but many are taught through cross-curricular topics.  Our whole school topic map gives an overview of our curriculum and more detailed news, information and events for each of the year groups can be found via the left-hand menu.

Our curriculum has been developed from the National Curriculum 2014, together with topics suggested by the children.  It offers exciting opportunities for developing children’s subject specific skills and knowledge and also important opportunities for helping children to recognise links between curriculum subjects. This helps children to make connections between prior knowledge and new information and experiences, and also offers opportunities to apply and embed skills and knowledge in meaningful and purposeful contexts. For example, data handling skills learned in maths can be purposely applied in geography and science; experiencing and describing processes in geography and science offer children relevant experiences and enhanced understanding when learning how to write explanations in English. Strong links can enhance learning in all subjects and help learners see the relevance, within a wider context, of the skills and knowledge they are acquiring in specific subjects.
