Topic 4:  Continental Curiosity

This half term, we’ll be learning about the continent of Europe, its countries and capital cities, and the varying landscapes and climates. As well as this, we will be exploring particular regions of France in greater depth in order to identify why tourists might visit.

Literacy:  Persuasive Writing – we will be creating our own tourist guides to Winchester.  Narrative – we will be writing stories based on The Lion in Paris by Beatrice Alemegna.  Hampshire Information Book Awards –evaluating specific information books against a set criteria before voting for our favourites.

Maths: Counting, reading, writing and ordering numbers to at least 9,999, counting forwards and backwards in steps of different sizes, rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000, multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. Tables facts - knowing all tables facts to 12 x 12 from memory and using these to work out division facts e.g. if 7x8=56, then 56÷8=7. Word problems – revising written methods for all four number operations (+ - x ÷) and applying these to solve word problems, including the use of estimation and inverse operations.  Measurement - finding area and perimeter, converting between units of measure.  Shape – comparing and measuring angles, properties of shapes.

Computing:  We will be continuing to learn about computer animation using 2Animate. 

RE:  This half term, we will be learning about Hinduism, including Hindu worship (puja) and Hindu temples.

Music/Drama: This half term we will be preparing for the Yr3/4 production of ‘Eddie the Penguin Saves the World’.

PE:   Indoor PE will be on Monday afternoons. Outdoor PE will be on Tuesday afternoons.  We will be continuing the Golden Mile initiative so please make sure your child has their PE kit, including trainers, in school every day. At this time of year, children should also have tracksuit bottoms and a jumper. Long hair must be tied back and spare socks are helpful.
